Please thoroughly inspect the package before the driver leaves. Insurance will not be valid if you do not.

Below is some important information regarding your new outboard. Please keep this document for future reference as not following these guidelines could cause your outboard to be damaged.

  1. Handle– Your new River Run Outboard is shipped with the handle disassembled from the unit. Before installing your new outboard, you must install the handle. Simply slide the handle into the socket and attach with the provided hardware.
  2. Motor Oil– You should use a good quality 10W-30 motor oil. Be sure to put in the correct amount as indicated in your Kohler engine service manual that we have provide to you. The Kohler engine is equipped with a “Low Oil Shutoff Sensor”. If you do not put enough oil in the engine, it is possible that the engine will shut off. The first time you go out on the water, it is a good idea to carry the oil container and a funnel if you are not sure on the correct amount. Change the oil after the first 10 hours. Your outboard already has engine oil in it.
  3. Cutch– Your new River Run is equipped with the world’s first RPM activated electromagnetic clutch. A battery of at least 20 AH is required to operate the system. Included with your outboard is a 6 gauge wire loom to connect to the battery. Ensure that ignition switch is in the proper position. Is some situations we have seen ignition switches that would allow the engine to operate when not in the proper “detent” position. The result of this is the clutch system not receiving 12v power. Trolling Switch-Your new outboard is equipped with a trolling switch function. This function allows the clutch system to be engages while at idle. The switch for this function is on the handle close to the throttle lever. Turn the switch on to activate the clutch system. Turn off to deactivate the system. With the system deactivated, you can operate the outboard normally with the throttle lever. Important Safety Note: When trolling switch is in the “On” position, the boat will be moving so practice extreme caution when in trolling mode.
  4. Engine Idle RPM– If needed, adjust the engine RPM at idle below 1250 RPM. Your clutch is designed to engage at 1450 RPM. It is important that you keep the engine RPM lower than the clutch engagement RPM. Damage to the clutch can occur if it is constantly under load do to the RPM being too high. Erratic engine idle can cause the clutch system to engage. If the idle speed is causing the clutch to activate you will need to lower the engine idel speed. There is an adjustment screw on the side of the carburetor to lower idle speed. Turn counter clock wise to lower engine idle speed.
  5. Belt Tension– Your new outboard is fitted with a belt tensioner allowing you to adjust for belt wear. The belt tensioner is located directly behind and below the belt cover. There are 3 bolts that need to be loosened to adjust the belt if needed.
  6. Gasoline– We recommend using non-ethanol gasoline to minimize fuel related issues. If non-ethanol gasoline is not available to you, can use a product like Sta-Bil to help stabilize fuel. You can add a little Marvel Mystery Oil as well which will help coat all internal rubber parts.
  7. Grease fittings– There is 1 grease fitting on the tail section of your outboard. Simply remove the grease fitting to inspect the grease level. If the level is low, add grease.  Inspect grease level every 50 hours. The tail bearing grease fitting is the only grease fitting on the outboard.
  8. Applying power– Your new River Run Outboard is equipped with an electric starter and a charging alternator. To properly connect 12 volt power to your electric, contact your 12 Volt hot wire to the terminal on the starter solenoid. It is the larger of the two lugs. Improper connection here can result in damage to the starter solenoid. A minimum battery size of 20AH is required to operate the clutch system. See Reverse Drive Instructions for minimum battery requirements for models with Reverse Drive.
  9. Drain– At the bottom of the belt housing is located a drain plug. Drain after each use. Some water can get in to the belt channel but does not affect durability.
  10. Tachometer– Included is a tachometer that allows you to set maintenance times for all scheduled maintenance. Included in your operator’s manual are the instructions for operation of the tachometer. The unit is shipped with the tachometer not attached to the handle. Install the tachometer to the handle with the included tie wraps.
  11. Warranty– All River Run Outboards have a 3 year Kohler Engine warranty and a 1 year warranty on the River Run chassis. The propeller is not covered under warranty. There are no refunds, returns or exchanges on River Run Outboard Motors.
  12. Shipping– Important Note Regarding Shipping: Your new outboard motor has been carefully packaged to avoid shipping damage. However damage can occur during shipment. Your outboard has been shipped with additional liability insurance to cover damage. It is critical that immediately upon receiving your new outboard motor that you inspect the outboard for any damage. If you do not inspect for damage and do not report damage at the time that the driver is delivering your package the freight line will refuse to pay an insurance claim on the damage. River Run cannot be responsible for damage that occurs during shipment if the damage is not reported.
