River Run Reverse Drive Instructions
The River Run Reverse is a more durable and more suited style of reverse drive when compared to regular gearbox style reverse drives. River Run designed a system that utilizes an electric motor reverse drive that provides 20 times the life expectancy of conventional gearboxes of any style. This style of system is unequaled in the Mud Motor Market. Tied into the River Run Clutch System, our reverse drive is activated with a momentary switch giving you full variable power reverse at your finger-tips. See it in the below picture:
Reversing the boat is accomplished by simply pushing the squeeze button right by the throttle mechanism. When the reverse drive is activated, the clutch system is locked out. Reversing the boat is accomplished by simply pushing the squeeze button right by the throttle mechanism.
The River Run Reverse Drive System and the River Run Clutch System battery setup is in the following pictures.
The reverse system contains a battery to run the engine and one for the reverse drive. The engine alternator charges the engine battery and a charge controller in the reverse control box feeds charge from the engine battery as needed to keep the reverse battery up to par.
A type 24 deep cycle marine battery with 5/16” screw posts is usually all that is required for the reverse battery. Heavier boats may need a bigger capacity type 27. The engine battery could be as small as a 35 AH AGM/SLA style with screw posts, but type 24 batteries with screw terminals would be cheaper and provide more capacity for other loads you might have on your boat.
Make reference to the photo above and you will see the reverse drive control box with large wire exiting to the left. The reverse drive control box can be attached anywhere along the port side of the transom of your boat, as long as the 3/0 ga. large reverse power wires and control wire harness to the engine are not stretched or comprised by turning of the mud motor. The lugs for the large reverse wires are attached to reverse battery, as well as smaller 8 gauge charging cables marked “Rev.Batt.” coming out of the bottom of the reverse control box. These charge wires must be attached BEFORE the feed side 8 ga. wire to reverse control marked “Main Batt.”, that attach to the engine battery.
In the event that the battery for the engine needs some kind of service or addition of more loads to the battery, remove the positive cable for reverse charging described above and then the positive on the reverse battery charging cable. Then re-attatch the reverse charge cable and finally the charge wire on the engine battery. Failure to follow this procedure at all time will damage the charge controller in the reverse control box.
